Over the weekend, Haitianite.com was honored to step over the other side of Hispaniola to attend a live performance by Dominican Republic’s most vibrant musical band, Aventura, at the Baja Lounge in the Bronx. Aventura is metaphorically the Tabou Combo of Haiti. Young, talented and full of energy, the king of bachata stepped on stage, men and women equally went wild, screaming, singing and jumping as others use their cell phones for a quick picture and video clips.
As a guest of Julio Miraje, the promoter of the event, members of Haitianite.com were not the only Haitians in the crowd. Among other Haitians in attendance was a representative of Festival of the Island Santo Domingo, Jean Valentin aka Dread Bony, and two other female members Nara Timmer and Rachel Pratt.
When approached by Haitianite.com to discuss his presence at the event, Dread Bony explained that he was negotiating with Aventura for their upcoming event, Festival of the Island Santo Domingo 2nd edition which will be held in Santo Domingo from Friday February 29th through March 3rd, 2008.
