KeryolFest 2007, Wingate Park Brooklyn, NY

The date has come and gone in glimpse, June 30, 2007, the most awaited date in the Haitian community of the Tri-State area, that is, the 2007 KreyolFest in

Brooklyn, NY. Presented by the Haitian Times, KreyolFest is a yearly Kompa Festival and a rendezvous of old friends and associates to reunite.

As always, all of the participating bands came out strong and delivered great performances, however, performances by Djakout Mizik and T-Vice were exceptional. The fans have for sometimes asked that the Helicopter be tuned up, and instead of a tune up, I believe that Roberto has cheated and changed the whole engine. The Helicopter came out strong and the fans were ready to ride on. It is important to mention that Carimi, one of the leading Haitian musical groups, did not participate in this year’s KreyolFest.

Other aspects of the festival were a fashion show, presented by "Be Good To You, LLC", under the leadership of Cadet Dorseus and the official launching of the "Festival of the Island Santo Domingo 2^nd Edition, Saturday March 1^st, 2008" presented by Voila in association with BHF & VIP (Venus International Production). Based on my independent research of the 1^st edition of the "Festival of the Island Santo Domingo", I would urge anyone to attend the 2^nd edition, especially those of us who would like to mend our relationship with our neighboring country, the Dominican Republic. It is a new beginning in Haitian Kompa and a new way of reaching out to the neighboring country; showing our interest in working jointly to promote and celebrate our common heritage.

I want to take the time out to congratulate the Haitian Times, Gary P. Pierre and the rest of the KreyolFest Team for a job well done and I therefore am looking forward to next year’s KreyolFest.
