Mikerline Dance Company and President Preval at the 2007 Caribbean Summit in Washington DC

Under the recommendation of the Haitian Embassy in Washington DC and Officials in Port-au-Prince, representing Haiti at the 2007 Caribbean Summit in Washington DC on Wednesday June 20th, the undisputed champion of Haitian Folkloric dance, Mikerline Pierre and company, has performed before various Haitian dignitaries, including the Haitian President, Rene Preval and a crowd of 2,000. Numerous Caribbean countries have performances from their respective citizens, however, far from bragging or blowing my own horn, performance by the Haitians was outstanding and was overall, the best performance of the night.
Hosted by Maurice Dubois, News Anchor of WCBS News in New York, the ceremony started with welcome remarks from his Excellency Ramdien Sardjoe, Vice President of Suriname. Vice President Sardjoe talked about the importance of Caribbean unity; a message that echoed throughout the night. It was a night of cultural brotherhood. "What the various artists intend to showcase this evening are presentations depicting the wide array of the cultural art forms and expressions residing in our unique tropical archipelago:-whether it is the sound of the steel Pan, or the rhythm of the Reggae, or the melody of the Calypso, or the pulsating beat of the Soca, or the enticing dancers from Haiti and Suriname ….you would have experienced a wide repertoire of the authentic Caribbean Cultural expression", wrote Ambassador Ellsworth John, Chairman of Caricom Caucus of Ambassadors. Indeed it was; a night of Caribbean cultural expression.

As we continue to commemorate Haiti’s bicentennial, Mikerline Afro-Haitian Dance Company has been and continues to be in the center of the various events celebrating Haiti’s culture. Under the direction of dance choreographer Mikerline Pierre and manager Jean Claude Elie of Rockmasters Entertainment, this group has been electrifying the public in all its performances, most recently, in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan, Maryland, Boston, Florida, New Jersey, California and Canada; and at various University Campuses including and not limited to MIT, Yale University, NY University, Penn State and Columbia University in the City of New York.

The expression in his face and the stand ovation by President Preval proves how satisfied and proud he was of the Haitian performance by Mikerline and Company. I invite you to browse through the pictures and watch the video of the Haitian performance. Please rest assured that Haitianite.com is about promoting and uplifting Haiti and its culture.
